Vehicle Description
I am listing this car for a deceased friend, whose wife asked me to list it for her. Up for your consideration is an original 1962 Corvette. It has been under the same owner for the last 37 years, the owner buying it in 1968, when it had 49,500 miles. The motor was rebuilt at that time using the best equipment. The motor is the ORIGINAL 340 horse 327 with solid lifters. By 1971 the car had acquired 65,000 miles, and the remaining miles have been logged over a 34 year period. It has always been garaged, and never been in an accident. This car has the original four speed, the 340 horsepower 327, tachometer, and the desirable Positrac rear end. It is also equipped with power windows, both working, and a very rare option. Note that the paint and interior have been redone; the car was originally black, but in 1980 the owner had a BODY OFF paint job applied in white, and the results are a very nice white finish---(no old finish showing at the door jambs-or anywhere else) The original red interior was replaced in 1999 with new seat foam and covers, new door panels, carpets, arm rests, and sun visors. The top seems to have been replace at that time also, and appears new. Also during that time the original carb and starter were rebuilt, as well as a complete service and tune-up. The chrome bumpers and stainless trim are literally flawless, and show the care and love of the owner. There is a small dime-size peck on the under-door trim on the passenger side, which is the only apparent dent! When the car was picked up from the owner's wife and driven, we had a chance to drive the car on the road. The steering centers well, with no pull to the left or right, and the car merged well with traffic on the freeway at 70 mph! The frame is unmolested; even the fabric snubbers that circle the rear axle are still intact. The wooden spare cover still looks good, and there are no structural issues with the frame; only some road grime and dirt. The following morning after the 25 mile drive down the freeway, we couldn't find an oil spot on the garage floor! The motor starts easily, with no smoke, and the clutch and transmission work smoothly. The brakes and steering work well by 1962 standards, with no leaks. I will list the numbers for the transmission and motor and such to show the high quality of this find. We considered that this car would be a great candidate for Bloomington Gold with very little work, or it can be driven and enjoyed as-is. The paint is almost flawless, the bias-ply tires aren't cracked, and even the wheel covers are the originals. Again, this is one of the most original Corvettes in the country, (outside of a non-running basket-case) and is a pleasure to drive. The original hardtop is included with the car, as is the documentation, and the green-paper Arkansas title. Please bid accordingly for this Original Southern Survivor.
